Towel Bicep Curl

Biceps are hard to train without weights. Pulling against your own foot through a towel is the honest way to do it at home.

Level Beginner
Equipment A towel
Sets and reps 3 sets x 30 sec
Works on Biceps

How to do it

  1. Sit down and loop a towel under one foot, holding both ends in that side hand.
  2. Push down gently with the foot while curling the hand up towards your shoulder.
  3. Keep the elbow tucked at your side and the movement slow.
  4. Do the time, then swap arms.

Common mistakes

  • × Pushing so hard with the foot that the arm cannot move at all.
  • × Swinging the elbow forward - it stays pinned to your ribs.
  • × Doing one arm longer than the other.

One thing that matters

Honest note - this will never build arms like dumbbells do. It keeps them working until you get some.

Questions

Towel Bicep Curl, answered

Can you really train biceps with no weights?

Partly. Biceps pull, and with nothing to pull against you are limited to pushing one arm against the other through a towel. It is genuine tension, but it is the honest weak point of equipment-free training.

How hard should I pull?

Hard enough that the movement is slow but never stops. If nothing moves at all, you are matching yourself perfectly and getting an isometric hold instead - useful, but not what this is.

What would work better?

Anything you can hang from. A doorway pull-up bar is the single best thing to buy for home training, and it is the one gap this site cannot fill with bodyweight alone.
